Artists have always been an endangered species, but recently, more aggressively so (funding/education cuts)... it's probably because art has the power to change the world. I feel privileged to make, play, experiment, self-express and communicate with others in what feels like my mother tongue. I want the next generation of artists to be able to do the same.
In some ways, art is the most sincere form of historical record-keeping that humanity has access to. As artists/creative-technologists/mischief-makers/social-scientists, we are uniquely placed to metaphorically 'poke the bear' of society via our work, inviting people to ponder our current and potential future realities.
I've been in the art space long enough to be content with what I've created (+ confident re the creative trajectory of my personal arts practice), but ain't been here long enough to be jaded beyond repair (yet). This means that I've just the right amount of "I'm mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore"-ness (*imagine meme here please*) and naïveté to believe that good can prevail, and art will be the thing that connects everyone to each other and the world around us (art, not war.).
